Being able to confidently offer to protect a client's carpet or upholstery is an important part of any professional carpet cleaning business. You must be aware that all protectors are not the same, just like every carpet cleaner is not the same. Different protectors have different fluoro-chemical technology and therefore, perform differently.
Now also available on wool with Bridgepoint Maxim advanced for wool.

Why You Should Have Protector
- Protection in general is publicly accepted - Advertising campaigns have assisted with this (the egg in the saucepan). Virtually anyone you ask would have heard about protectors in one form or another.
- Happy Customers - This is so valuable. Their carpets and upholstery will look cleaner longer and it will be all because of you.
Can all the professionals be wrong?
The majority of carpets sold, especially nylon comes out of the carpet mills with some sort of protector on it. Therefore,
- Carpet Mills must know it works
- Fibre producers must know it works
- Bridgepoint knows it works
- Guardsman knows it works
- All Aces knows it works
TOP UP TREATMENTS
If the carpet is already protected and it is starting to wear, you can do a top up treatment. Did you know that when you bought your carpet it came with a protector on it? Over time, this protector can wear off due to foot traffic and general wear. We can re-apply the protector to these affected areas to maintain the life of your carpet.

Benefits of Bridgepoint Maxim and Guardsman
You must understand HOW PROTECTORS WORK so you know why the benefits are real.
Surface Tension:
When Bridgepoint Maxim and Guardsman is applied to a fibre, it creates increased surface tension so that any liquid that is spilt on it will find it hard to penetrate the surface of the fibre. If spills can't penetrate the fibre (ie. They simply bead up on the carpet or fabric) they are easier to clean up and cannot cause a stain.
Coating Mechanism:
The penetration ability of Bridgepoint Maxim and Guardsman enables them to coat the entire fibre easily. So, even if a spill happens from high above the carpet (eg. From a table or bench top), it can move down towards the base of the carpet, but the fibre is still protected. Clean up is still so easy.
Benefit 1: Carpets/Fabrics will look newer and stay cleaner longer
If spills and soil can’t penetrate the fibre, fabrics and carpet will look cleaner longer. This is a great benefit considering the large investment people make in carpeting their homes.
Benefit 2: Carpets Last Longer
Soiling can cause premature wear to carpets. Traffic Lane areas can ‘ugly out’ and cannot be effectively cleaned any more. Carpets are therefore replaced long before they are due which is a costly exercise. Using Bridgepoint Maxim and Guardsman along with proper maintenance of the carpet (regular vacuuming) can prevent this from occurring.
Benefit 3: Carpet Cleans Better
Dry vacuuming by the customer will be much more effective and easier, as is spot cleaning. You will also achieve excellent cleaning results when next time you clean your customer’s carpets.
Benefit 4: Spotting Easier
Using Bridgepoint Maxim and Guardsman gives the customer time to attend to the stain before permanent damage may occur. On-sell a spotter to your customer to ensure she uses the right product and doesn’t apply something that may set a stain.

Fibre Identification
It is important to be able to identify fibres to determine the cleaning characteristics of that particular fibre. You are therefore able to choose the best cleaning product to get the best cleaning result as well. Understanding the characteristics of fibres will also help you to decide whether or not protection will be worthwhile if applied to your customers upholstery or carpets.
Applying protection to a polypropylene fibre for example is not recommended as polypropylene is not an absorptive fibre (it floats in water). A fibre should be absorptive for protection to be of any benefit.

The History of Nylon Carpet Fibres
Nylon fibres are described in 'generations' to identify the changes/improvements that occurred to nylon fibres used in carpet manufacture over time.
First Generation Nylon: This was the first nylon fibre that was produced and it has a round cross section. It caused the fibre to magnify soil quite easily however, therefore it tended to look dirty.
Second Generation Nylon: Magnification of soils were reduced greatly by changing the shape of the fibre to tri-lobal. This caused the light to refract differently resulting in less obvious soiling.
Third Generation Nylon: Static electricity created by nylon caused the consumer some discomfort. The problem was solved by adding a built-in anti stat to the fibres generally by use of a carbon core.
Fourth Generation Nylon: Soil resistance through the use of fluoro-chemicals was introduced which created a better product than ever before. Fluoro-chemical coatings were applied at the mill and provided superior soil resistance.
Fifth Generation Nylon: Because many of today's foods contain acid dyes (eg: cordials, jelly, mustard) the latest generation of the nylon fibre contains acid dye resistors. These chemicals are applied by the fibre manufacturers to prevent food dyes such as those contained in many fruit drinks from leaving permanent stains on the carpet.
