Water Damage Checklist

When you discover a water damage situation in your home the following steps below will guide you to assist in the preparation of water damage restoration and will also ensure some safety for you, your family and your belongings.

  • Identify the source of the water e.g. overflow of bath
  • Turn off or stop the source as best you can e.g. turn off tap, turn off mains water.
  • Place down towels and sheets to absorb water and make hard floor surfaces non slippery.
  • Phone your insurance company if insured

  • Remove all objects and items from wet area
  • Move or elevate as much furniture as you can
  • If the furniture has wooden or steel legs use plastic bags to cover them so they don’t weep and stain the carpet.
  • Elevate or remove chip board or MDF furniture
  • Turn on air-conditioning and fans or open windows. Air circulation assists in the drying process.

Things to avoid
