Most carpet cleaners and so-called "restorers" don't structurally dry properly which can then cause secondary damage.
For example:
- Water floods a room and the carpet and underlay become wet. There is a concrete slab underneath that is also wet. The gyprock walls absorb the water and it wicks up the wall where the pine frame INSIDE the wall becomes wet.
Most unprofessional carpet cleaners and restorers suck out the water then set up air movers to dry the carpet and underlay. Here's where the secondary damage can happen : The concrete slab can absorb a lot of water. The gyprock has paper lining and the frame can soak up the water. With high humidity, mould can form on the frame, the gyprock and the jute backing of the carpet. If mould forms on the carpet and gyprock, these have to be replaced. The frame needs to be cleaned, sanded or ice blasted to remove the mould. Thus, structural drying is very important.
We have specialised drying equipment to dry under cupboards, inside walls, inside ceiling cavities, inside crawl spaces and subfloors.
It is also very important to have the right moisture detection equipment. The Delmhorst Meter is the best meter that money can buy. It has a non-penetrating meter, a penetrating meter, a thermo-hygrometer, hammer probe and has download capabilites.
Garry Carroll, the director of All Aces Services, has just come back from the USA.
